Welcome to the Moths of India website!

No. of species pages: 2929
No. of lifecycle pages: 198

This is an online peer-reviewed resource designed to disseminate comprehensive information on various aspects of the biology of Indian moths, encourage their observation to study their natural history and ecology, gather population and distributional data in a centralized database, and spread awareness about their conservation. It is a model of 'citizen science', where ordinary citizens participate in gathering scientific data and building this free resource on Indian moths.

With over 42,000 reference images, and over 2,920 species/genera, this is the largest library of curated moth images of the Indian Region. The data from these images helps map the detailed distribution and seasonal occurrence of Indian moths. These images also capture the morphological variation of Indian moths like never before, along with information on their nectar plants, larval host plants, predators and parasitoids, etc., making it a critical resource on the biology of moths for amateur moth-watchers and professional biologists alike.
