Lophophleps purpurea male is duller purple grey (vs purple-red/brown in L. phoenicoptera), FW almost entire costa is ochreous (vs basal part of costa), FW ante-medial band is nearly straight (vs waved) & the HW anal angle is less produced (vs strongly produced).

Lophophleps triangularis (Hampson, 1895).  
Lophophleps triangularis male is greenish grey, with finer fasciation.

Subspecies: the nominate subspecies phoenicoptera has narrower ochreous bands as compared to subspecies tuita that is found in SE Asia (Prout).
